Your own home. Your own life. The right support.

Supported living means an adult with a learning disability lives in their own home — with support shaped entirely around them. Independence with a safety net, built with the person and the people who know them best.

What’s included

What this care includes

Every package is built around a personal plan agreed with you and your family — flexible visits from one hour through to full 24/7 support, delivered by a small, consistent team of SSSC-registered carers.

Independent living skills — cooking, shopping, budgeting, travel and running a home — built at the person’s pace

Personal care — delivered respectfully, only where it’s wanted and needed

Community connection — college, work, volunteering, clubs and friendships — a life, not just a service

Health and appointments — support to attend GP, dental and hospital appointments and stay well

Tenancy support — help with the practicalities of keeping a home running

Flexible hours to 24/7 — from a few hours weekly to full round-the-clock support

Who it’s for

Who supported living is for

Supported living is for adults with a learning disability who want to live in their own home — whether that’s moving out of the family home for the first time, leaving a residential setting, or staying put with better support around them.

The person holds the tenancy or owns the home. Support fits around them — not the other way round. That distinction matters: it’s the difference between a service someone lives inside, and a life someone leads with support.

We build each arrangement with the person, their family and their social work team, and we review outcomes — not just tasks. Most supported living is funded through Self-Directed Support, which gives the person and their family genuine choice over who provides it.

Questions families ask

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between supported living and residential care?

In supported living the person holds their own tenancy and support is arranged around them; in residential care the accommodation and care come as one package. Supported living generally offers more independence, choice and legal security of tenure.

Yes — families usually know the person best, and we want that knowledge in the plan. The person remains the centre of every decision.

Most commonly through Self-Directed Support following a social work assessment — Options 1 and 2 let the person or family choose the provider. We’ll help you navigate it: see our SDS guide.

Yes. Some people need a few hours a week; others need round-the-clock support. Both work within a supported living model, and support can flex over time.
