Eidyn Care was started by Rebecca and Andrew McLennan around their own kitchen table. Rebecca was a palliative care nurse who kept meeting people who wanted to be at home and couldn’t be. Ten years on, we’re still family-run, still directly employing every carer, and still answering our own phones.

Our story
Rebecca spent years as an oncology and palliative care nurse, latterly at St Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh. She kept coming home with the same observation: almost everyone she looked after said they wanted to die at home, and almost none of them could.
Andrew’s background was nothing to do with care — twenty years running IT and change programmes for banks and airports. So when Rebecca said someone should build a service that let people stay at home properly, the answer was reasonably obvious. She had the clinical experience. He had the systems and the business side. Eidyn Care registered with the Care Inspectorate in April 2017 and took on its first clients in north Edinburgh.
We’ve grown since — a second office in Lochgelly serving Fife, and registration for Perth & Kinross — but the model hasn’t changed. Every carer is employed directly by us. Nothing is subcontracted to an agency. When you ring the office, you get someone who knows the client you’re calling about.

Co-founder & Registered Manager
A qualified nurse with a background in oncology and palliative care, including several years at St Columba’s Hospice. Rebecca had the original idea for Eidyn Care in 2016 and remains hands-on — she is the Registered Manager, she knows the clients, and she still goes out on visits. In 2019 she won Scottish Care’s Palliative and End of Life Care award, sponsored by Macmillan Cancer Support.
Co-founder & Managing Director
Andrew spent two decades as a project and programme manager in IT before Eidyn Care, and brought that discipline to the operational side of the business — rostering, training, monitoring, and the systems that make sure a visit actually happens when it’s meant to. He looks after the running of both offices, recruitment, and the standards we hold the team to.

A small management team, split between Edinburgh and Lochgelly, covering service delivery, compliance and the running of the Edinburgh branch. When you ring either office you get one of our own team — no call centre, no script, and no being passed around.

We’re also an accredited Living Wage employer. Not an award — a commitment we choose to fund, because carers who are paid properly stay longer, and consistency of carer is the thing families tell us matters most.

Every care service in Scotland must be registered with the Care Inspectorate, which inspects, grades and publishes reports on each one. Our reports are public. We’d encourage you to read them — and to read the reports of anyone else you’re considering.

All care staff are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), PVG-checked, and employed directly by Eidyn Care. Care is delivered in line with the Health and Social Care Standards.
Genuinely family-run. Eidyn Care is independently owned by Rebecca and Andrew McLennan — it isn’t a franchise of a national brand, and there’s no head office elsewhere setting the rules. Decisions are made in Edinburgh and Lochgelly by people you can speak to.
Employed directly by us, every one. We don’t subcontract to agencies. That’s why we can hold people to our own standards, train them our way, and keep the same carers going to the same clients.
Rebecca is the Registered Manager and is accountable to the Care Inspectorate for the quality of the service. If you have a concern, you can raise it with the office, with Rebecca directly, or with the Care Inspectorate — and we’ll tell you how to do all three.
The idea started in 2016 and the service registered with the Care Inspectorate in April 2017, which is when we took on our first clients. The Fife office followed, and we’re now registered for Perth & Kinross as well.
