Life at Eidyn Care – Social events for our Home Care Assistants
Our Home Care Assistants (aka Eidyn Angels) know how to work hard to support their clients, but working in social care can be challenging and we need find time to have fun and promote a healthy work-life balance! So our Social Committee of Home Care Assistants got their heads together and came up with some fab some Covid-safe, outdoor social events, to allow us to get together in small groups to enjoy in the lead-up to Christmas.
October – Halloween Outdoor Social Event
‘Spooktacular’ event for our Home Care Assistants at Edinburgh Zoo
In October, our Care Teams went in two separate groups to the Edinburgh Zoo ‘Spooktacular’ event. Meandering through a Halloween themed trail of the zoo, we were treated to animated light shows, bantered with some cheeky wizards and devoured toasted marshmallows around a fire pit! We were lucky to have two beautifully clear night and a perfect view of the full harvest moon….
November – ‘Festival of Light’ at Edinburgh Castle Social Event

In November, our Home Care Assistants enjoyed a social event to Edinburgh Castle for their ‘Festival of Light’ evening guided tour. With our hot chocolates to keep us warm, we enjoyed animated light shows giving us a fascinating and often quirky history of the Castle beyond the usual stories we learn about in standard grade History (did you know that an elephant was brought back from Sri Lanka to live in the Castle in the 1800’s?! Neither did we!)

When we reached the top of the Castle, it started to snow and as we looked out onto Princes Street and beyond, we all went a bit gooey and misty-eyed about living in such a beautiful city (whilst feeling smug about wearing that second fleece!)
December – ‘Christmas at the Botanics’ Outdoor Social Event
A beautiful evening event for our Home Care Assistants at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens
Whilst Covid stopped us from celebrating in our usual style by throwing a party for our lovely clients and carers in December, our Home Care Assistants still had a wonderful time celebrating our favourite season at the ‘Christmas at the Botanics’ event. It was a great opportunity to catch-up on everyone’s festive plans, receive our Christmas presents from Eidyn Care and enjoy a totally unique illuminated light trail around the park.
We donned our warmest festive jumpers and if there was a prize for the best outfit it would have gone to Louise, who is famous for her handmade costumes made to entertain her lovely clients in their homes. She confused all of us by suddenly disappearing behind a tree… only to come out dressed head-to-toe as a Christmas cracker – Louise always brings the fun factor! We had a fab time and it really got us in the mood for Christmas.

Alongside our social events, our Home Care Assistants also have lots of fun online with photo competitions.
